Thunderbird

Went to Thunderbird today. Was a nice change from the long drive to Okemah. When we got to the lake it had started raining on us so we went ahead and unloaded the boat and headed out. We trolled around our normal path and by the time we got to the other side of the point the rain had stopped. Greg picked up a small sandbass and I picked up a small crappie while we were trolling. We decided to come back to the bank and do some bass fishing. No sooner than we go back to the bank and the sandbass started busting the top in front of the boat. I was able to get one cast into them before they stopped and picked up one small one. We then went to the southwest end of the lake and started bass fishing again. I picked up a small saugeye on a crankbait and then I switched to a watermelon lizard to fish the upcoming sticks. My lizard netted me one nice 22" saugeye. We were able to pick up several small bass throughout the day and later in the day the bass started busting on top in the sticks, unfortunately all the ones we saw were small. Overall it turned out to be a nice day and I got a meal out of it.

Been negleting the blog

I've been neglecting my blog lately and not updating with recent fishing trips. So here is the scoop. Last week I went with a friend on Thunderbird and was able to table 20 crappies. Had 6 that were in the 1 to 1.5 lb range. Yesterday we went back and were only able to table 4. They were a lot smaller this last trip but they were still in the same spot. They were in 8ft and could not figure out why they were in that spot, there was no structure or any reason we could see for them to be there but they were. We also caught a couple small sand bass but that was about it. Did a little Bass fishing but didn't turn up anything.

Today, this morning, went to Hefner to see if we could catch something and ended up with one small sand bass and one small walleye before the wind changed to the north at about 20-30 mph.

Thunderbird 10/31 & 11/1

Went to Thunderbird on Fri and Sat. Friday the lake was covered with birds and the sand bass were exploding on top all over the lake for about 2 hours in the evening. On Sat there were not many birds on the water at all and the sand bass didn't repeat the top action like they did the evening before. Water temp was 67.

Finally a good day

Nothing big today but it was a nice day regardless. We took another trip to Thunderbird and were able to catch several small sandbass, one keeper saugeye, and a couple small bass. Also pulled a few small crappie out of a couple brush piles.

So far I've been very impressed with Thunderbird, it has been a producer of both quantity and quality.

Happy B-day to me

Well today is my birthday and the boat is in commission so I decided I was going to spend the entire day fishing even if it killed me. In the morning I went to Lake Hefner and marked a lot of fish on the locater at about 15-20ft. I dropped a marker buoy and tried to get one on a spoon. Caught a fish but it was on my new rod and reel so I didn't have the drag set and he got off, have no idea what he was, I'm thinking it was a small walleye.

Came home at around noon and got something to eat then Anthony and I decided we were going to try out Lake Thunderbird since neither of us had been there. He had his daughter for the day so we took her along. Fished until almost dark and caught 2 fish. I had a small one that was maybe a pound then things went dry for a while and Anthony hooked a really nice fish, weighed just over 4 3/4 lbs. Nice one! Overall it was a good birthday, wish we could have caught more but it was good regardless.
